Sri Lanka donates eye corneas to Pakistan

The Sri Lankan High Commission in Islamabad has facilitated a donation of human eye corneas to Pakistan, marking the 77th anniversary of the Independence of Sri Lanka. 

According to the Sri Lankan High Commission in Islamabad, this initiative was organized with the support of the Sri Lanka-Pakistan Friendship Association.

The eye corneas were formally handed over by Acting High Commissioner of Pakistan, A. Christy Ruban, along with Defence Advisor of the High Commission, Brigadier Kaminda Silva to Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis & Human Resource Development, and Religious Affairs & Interfaith Harmony, Chaudhry Salik Hussain. 

The event took place at the national day reception on 04 February 2025.

Cornea transplants were performed for patients in need at the Armed Forces Institute of Ophthalmology (AFIO), Rawalpindi.

This event further strengthens the longstanding legacy of bilateral cooperation, with a total of 26,000 corneas donated to Pakistan over the 77 years of diplomatic relations. (Newswire)
