The Matara Magistrate’s Court has ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to arrest and produce former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon in connection with a shooting incident in Weligama.
The Police Media Spokesperson said that the CID will be taking steps to arrest eight Police officers including Tennakoon to be produced as suspects in the case.
The shooting reported near the W15 Hotel in Weligama on 31, December, 2023 left a police officer dead and another injured.
The dead and injured officers were part of a Colombo Crime Division (CCD) team that, Police said. The Matara Magistrate found that the CCD officials deployed to Weligama was done illegally. (Newswire)
