A 48-year-old man has been arrested in connection to the death of a 09-year-old girl, who was accidentally shot in Hettipola last night.
According to the Police, the man had been hunting wild boars and had fired his weapon, accidentally shooting the girl and her grandmother who were at a nearby house.
The child had died in the shooting, while her grandmother sustained injuries and had been hospitalised.
The suspect who had fled the area following the incident, was apprehended in the Mangulagama area in Hettipola last night.
The Police had seized the weapon used in the shooting, 02 empty bullets, and the firearm licence obtained in 2025.
