Leader of the House, Minister Bimal Rathnayake has called on Muslim Leaders to intervene and stop the unfair criticism of Minister of Women Affairs Saroja Paulraj, who he said is being falsely accused by Muslim politicians.
Addressing the Parliament today, Minister Rathnayake said Minister Paulraj has not made any comments related to Islam or its laws, with any racial or religious implications.
He further said that the President and the government had previously mentioned that changes to any Islamic laws would be done following discussions with Muslim Leaders, and this was the message conveyed by Minister Paulraj at a recent event.
“Some Muslim politicians who are involved in haram businesses and who live a life of haram are now accusing Minister Paulraj without reason, just to stir issues ahead of the local government elections,” he said.
Reiterating that the National Peoples’ Power Government stands for unity among religions and communities, Minister Rathnayake warned Muslim politicians to refrain from making false accusations against Minister Paulraj. (Newswire)
