Leader of the House, Bimal Rathnayake has called on the Speaker to conduct a probe into the allegations of sexual violence being directed at prominent female activist and Attorney-at-Law Swasthika Arulingam.
Addressing the Parliament today, Minister Bimal Rathnayake said complaints have been received of Swasthika Arulingam facing statements of sexual violence from a Member of Parliament.
He further said that the matter had been raised with Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, while the Parliament was also aware of the MP making such a detrimental statement against the female Attorney-at-Law.
As such, Minister Rathnayake called on the Speaker to conduct a probe into the matter and take necessary actions in this regard.
The call for a probe comes after Jaffna MP Archchuna Ramanathan had made derogatory remarks against Attorney-at-Law Swasthika Arulingam in Parliament recently. (Newswire)
