A well-known tusker named ‘Unicorn’, residing in the Minneriya National Park, has been found dead after being shot by unidentified individuals, Environment Minister Dr. Dammika Patabendi disclosed in Parliament yesterday.
During a parliamentary debate, the Minister shared that the elephant was likely shot on March 15, with its carcass being discovered by wildlife officials earlier yesterday (March 17).
Dr. Patabendi also mentioned that the Department of Forest Conservation has launched a thorough investigation into the matter.
Authorities are actively working to track down the perpetrators behind the killing of the tusker, a familiar figure in the national park.
