Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Southern province and at several places in the other areas of Sri Lanka during the afternoon or night today, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Showers may occur in the coastal areas of the Western province and Puttalam district in the morning. Fairly heavy rainfall of about 75 mm is likely at some places in the Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central, Uva and Eastern provinces.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Pottuvil via Galle. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the other sea areas around the island during the evening or night.
Winds will be West or South-westerly in direction and wind speed will be 20-35 kmph. Wind speed may increase up to 45-50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambanthota.
The sea areas off the coasts extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambanthota will be fairly rough at times. The other sea areas around the island will be slight to moderate. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (Newswire)
