Giga is excited to announce our inaugural competition with the theme “The Joy of Connection”. We are calling all photographers and visual storytellers globally!
Connectivity has the power to change lives. We invite you to capture the transformative impact of internet access on individuals and communities.
Giga is a partnership between UNICEF and the International Telecommunication Union that aims to connect every school in the world to the Internet. At Giga, we understand that photography, when coupled with the internet, is a powerful tool for connecting us with the world.
This contest is open to photographers of all experience levels — from young emerging photographers to professional photojournalists.
As part of this initiative, we are also launching the Giga Photo Mentorship Programme. This programme aims to amplify youth voices for internet connectivity in Sri Lanka, guiding them to explore and visually document its impacts on their lives, families, and communities. This week-long programme will increase advocacy opportunities through these stories and share messages with community members, policymakers, and other stakeholders on the importance of connectivity.
The photographs taken by the youth, along with the accompanying stories, will explore their everyday experiences of connectivity impacts. These insights offer a local and child rights perspective with an exhibition on 11th April 2025 in Kandy, contributing to a more inclusive connectivity dialogue and pushing the agenda of “Connectivity as Child Rights and Human Rights”.
