22 Indian nationals who were residing illegally in the country after overstaying their visas had been arrested, the Department of Immigration and Emigration said.
According to officials, the group had entered Sri Lanka around three months ago under different visa categories — 17 on tourist visas, four on residence visas, and one on a business visa.
The arrests were made following interrogations conducted by the department’s investigation officers, based on information obtained from questioning two Indian nationals suspected of illegal stay.
Authorities said the group, aged between 25 and 35, was employed at an office complex in the Rajagiriya area at the time of their arrest. (Newswire)
