Western Province Governor Hanif Yousuf says Sri Lanka is exploring opportunities to become a regional e-commerce hub, following high-level discussions with senior leadership from Alibaba Group and Daraz.
The talks, which follow a recent meeting between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Alibaba Chairman Joe Tsai in Dubai, focused on key reforms including establishing an e-commerce channel at Customs, expanding digital payment adoption, and facilitating cross-border trade.
Governor Yousuf noted the vital role of SMEs in driving the country’s digitalisation strategy and emphasised that a strong, open digital economy is essential for growth, exports, and widening the tax base. (Newswire)
