A special search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy in the Daluwa area of Norochcholai on April 10 led to the interception of a vehicle carrying over 1,142 kg of dried turmeric.
The operation resulted in the arrest of a 27-year-old suspect from Madurankuliya. The turmeric, hidden in 31 sacks, was seized along with the vehicle involved in the smuggling attempt.
The suspect, along with the seized goods and vehicle, was handed over to the Customs Preventive Office in Katunayake for further legal action. This operation is part of the Sri Lanka Navy’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal activities, including smuggling, through both land and coastal routes. (NewsWire)
