Sri Lanka’s overall inflation, as measured by the National Consumer Price Index (NCPI), stood at -1.9% in March 2025 on a year-on-year basis, up from -3.9% recorded in February 2025, according to the Department of Census and Statistics.
Food inflation rose to 0.8% in March, compared to -1.1% the previous month, while non-food inflation remained in negative territory at -4.1%.
The NCPI (Base year 2021=100) decreased marginally to 206.0 in March from 206.2 in February. Month-on-month, food prices contributed -0.10% to the index change, and non-food showed no change.
Core inflation, excluding food, energy, and transport, was recorded at -0.6% in March, with a monthly decrease of -0.1%.
