The Sri Lanka Police has warned the public of a fake letter being circulated on social media with the intention of causing disrepute to the Police Department.
Issuing a statement, the Police said the letter titled ‘CONVICTION’ in English bears the forged signature of the Acting IGP Priyantha Weerasuriya and also the forged official symbols of the Government, the Supreme Court and the Police Department.
The Police further said that the letter, which consists of jumbled words and bears false information, has been issued by a company identified as Cyber Crime Headquarters Colombo, Sri Lanka, which does not exist.
The public has been warned that the positions or facts mentioned in the letter have not been announced by the Police Department.
Stating that the fake letter has been published with the intention of causing disrepute to the Police and to mislead the public, the Police said legal action will be taken against those involved.
The Police added that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has launched a probe into the matter. (Newswire)
