Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has unveiled a state-of-the-art eight-lane swimming pool at the National High Performance Centre, located at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium (RPICS) in Colombo.
According to the SLC, the new facility was officially declared open today by the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Sunil Kumara Gamage, upon the invitation of Sri Lanka Cricket President, Shammi Silva.
The occasion was graced by several distinguished guests, including the Deputy Minister of Sports, Sugath Thilakaratne, and the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, Anuradha Illeperuma.
Also present were SLC’s Executive Committee Members and Office Bearers, and among them were Vice Presidents Jayantha Dharmadasa and Ravin Wickramaratne, Secretary Bandula Dissanayake, and Treasurer Sujeeva Godaliyadda.
Assistant Treasurer Lasantha Wickremasinghe, CEO Ashley De Silva, Director of Cricket Jerome Jayaratne, and Head Coach of the National Men’s Team Sanath Jayasuriya and Head Coach of the National Women’s Team, Rumesh Ratnayake, were also present during the opening. Captain of the national women’s team Chamari Athapathu and the members of the national team took part in the opening as well.
This cutting-edge swimming pool, built as part of SLC’s National Pathway Program, measures 25 meters in length and 21 meters in width, with a depth ranging from 1.2 to 1.8 meters.
It will serve the Sri Lanka National Teams, ‘A’ Team, and National Fast and Spin Bowling Squads, supporting player fitness, post-match recovery, and injury rehabilitation. Additionally, the facility will be available to visiting international teams during tours of Sri Lanka.
The pool complex is equipped with modern male and female changing rooms, first aid facilities, and essential amenities to ensure a professional environment for athlete care and recovery.
The High Performance Centre in Colombo now features an international-standard cricket ground, a fully equipped gymnasium, under-lights training facilities, a dedicated physiotherapy unit and the Brain Centre for performance analysis.
Upcoming additions in Phase Two include a Jacuzzi, an ice bath, and a soon-to-be-completed indoor net facility, all part of SLC’s vision to create a world-class, comprehensive training hub. (Newswire)
