Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe has expressed his condolences to India over the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, in which several tourists were killed.

In a letter addressed to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former President Wickremesinghe condemned the attack, which he referred to as a ‘heinous crime’.

“Having endured a three-decade conflict of separatist terrorism in Sri Lanka not too long ago, this criminal act is a stark reminder of the detrimental impact of extremism, which needs to be concertedly addressed,” he said.

At least 26 people were killed by a group of terrorists who emerged from the dense forests around the trekking paradise of the Baisaran meadows in the upper reaches of Pahalgam in India-administered Kashmir on Tuesday.

Following the attack, India has announced a slew of diplomatic measures against Pakistan for its support of terrorist activities in India. (Newswire)
