Morning showers are expected in several provinces of Sri Lanka today, while showers or thundershowers are expected in most places after 1.00 pm, according to the Department of Meteorology.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, North-western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and the Galle and Matara districts.

Fairly heavy falls above 75 mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, and Eastern provinces and the Polonnaruwa and Puttalam districts.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle. Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the other sea areas around the island during the evening or night.

Winds will be Westerly or South-westerly and wind speed will be 25-35 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 45 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambanthota.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and Matara to Pottuvil via Hambanthota can be fairly rough at times. The other sea areas around the island can be slight to moderate. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (Newswire)
