Chennai Super Kings Head Coach Stephen Fleming has acknowledged that Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana is still working through challenges with his bowling action but praised the improvements he has made in recent months.
“In South Africa (SA20) he was way off and yes, there was an issue with his action and that might be a question for Sri Lankan cricket,” Fleming said, adding that the CSK management has been focused on helping the young fast bowler return to a more effective and consistent rhythm.
Fleming admitted that Pathirana is still in a phase of evolution, experimenting with his action and learning to adapt. “He’s not far away, he’s made a massive improvement in the two months since South Africa… He is going to try things and be asked to try things and he will settle at some point on an action that will give him the best results.”
Despite a quiet IPL campaign so far, Fleming said Pathirana showed glimpses of promise. “He bowled two good overs but again it’s just that ability to sustain the pressure… everything has to be in the right sync to go well.”
Pathirana, who made an impact in previous IPL seasons, has struggled to replicate that form this year but remains a player CSK is committed to developing further. (Newswire)
