Pakistan’s Supreme Court has ordered authorities to transfer jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad amid concerns over his health.

The Supreme Court issued the order on Tuesday, directing prison authorities to move Khan to the hospital under tight security and keep him there until the next hearing.

The court also directed authorities to submit Khan’s complete medical records and instructed relevant officials to ensure security and maintain law and order outside the hospital.

The development follows concerns raised over the 73-year-old former prime minister’s health. A report submitted by Adiala Jail authorities to the Supreme Court had said Khan’s eye condition had improved significantly following treatment and that his vision was “almost normal.”

However, Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had continued to call for his transfer to a hospital, raising concerns over his health, including elevated blood pressure, and seeking access to his personal doctors.

Khan, who served as Pakistan’s prime minister from 2018 until his removal through a no-confidence vote in 2022, has been imprisoned since 2023 and has faced a series of legal cases. (Newswire)
