U.S. forces have struck three Iranian crude oil tankers after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched ballistic missiles toward two U.S. Navy warships, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said.
CENTCOM said the strikes were carried out on September 5 after the IRGC launched multiple ballistic missile attacks targeting U.S. naval vessels patrolling regional waters.
According to CENTCOM, a U.S. aircraft carrier and a guided-missile destroyer successfully evaded the Iranian attacks.
No American personnel were harmed in the incident, the U.S. military said.
The U.S. military subsequently struck three Iranian crude oil carriers. The latest confrontation marks a further escalation in hostilities between Washington and Tehran following a series of exchanges in recent days.
