Walampoori: Seven and Half Dreams, the cinematic debut of director Lakmal Darmarathna, premiered in Sri Lankan theaters on April 25 and is currently screening across the island.
Darmarathna, known for the acclaimed teledrama Koombiyo, leads a cast that includes Dilhani Ekanayake, Thumindu Dodantenne, Priyantha Sirikumara, and Ashan Dias. The film is produced by Asanka Dodantenne and Pradeep Perera.
The story follows five village con men who form a traveling performance troupe to conceal their criminal activities. Their scheme becomes complicated when they encounter Swami Makandaraja, a con artist impersonating a Hindu priest, who draws them into a plot involving two mystical conch shells known as “Walampooris.”
International screenings are planned in Australia, Canada, Italy, New Zealand, the United States, Japan, and Finland.
