Opposition and Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Leader MP Sajith Premadasa is ready to participate in a debate against National Peoples Power (NPP) Leader MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the SJB announced yesterday.
Addressing the media, SJB MP Harsha de Silva said the party leader was ready to face off with NPP’s Anura Kumara Dissanayake for a debate on economic policies.
Stating that the SJB had issued the initial challenge for a debate between both parties, MP Harsha de Silva once again extended an invitation for a debate between the economic councils of the SJB and the NPP.
“MP Nalin Bandara initially called for a debate between the economic councils of the SJB and NPP, to which NPP member Sunil Handunnetti responded by stating that his party was ready.
“The SJB’s economic committee has three members. The NPP’s economic council also consists of three members Handunnetti, Prof. Anil Jayasinghe, and Seetha Bandara. Therefore, the SJB extended an invitation for a debate with these three NPP members. However, the NPP is now saying that as the Presidential Election is looming a debate should be held between those intending to contest, and hence a debate between Sajith Premadasa and Anura Kumara Dissanayake,” MP de Silva said.
The SJB MP revealed that Party Leader MP Sajith Premadasa has said he was prepared for a debate against NPP’s Anura Kumara Dissanayake at any time.
Reiterating that the SJB had first called for a debate against the NPP, MP de Silva said the NPP’s economic council must first face off with the SJB’s economic committee. (NewsWire)
