Weather : Showers expected in a few areas today

The Department of Meteorology says a few showers are expected in some provinces today, while warnings for rough seas have been issued for the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.

Per the weather forecast for Monday, several spells of showers will occur in the Northern province. A few showers will occur in Galle and Matara districts. Mainly fair weather will prevail elsewhere. 

Strong winds of 40-45 kmph can be expected at times over the Northern, North-central, Northwestern, Western, Central and Southern provinces. 

Per the weather forecast for sea areas, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Kankasanthurai.

Winds will be Westerly to South-westerly and wind speed will be 30-40 kmph in the sea areas around the island. Wind speed can increase up to 60 kmph at times in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Kankasanthurai. Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota. 

The sea areas extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Kankasanthurai will be rough at times. The sea areas extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota will be fairly rough at times. Swell waves about 2.5–3.0 m in height may increase in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Galle. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (Newswire)
