The owner of Lanka Premier League (LPL) Franchise, Dambulla Thunders, Tamim Rahman has been remanded after being arrested at the Katunayake Airport today.
The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has remanded the British citizen of Bangladesh origin, until May 31, 2024.
He was arrested by officials of the Special Investigation Unit for the Prevention of Offences Relating to Sports at the Sports Ministry.
The exact charges against the LPL team owner are not yet clear and it is unclear whether they are related to the LPL or any other tournament.
His arrest comes in the back of Dambulla Thunders’ participation in the player auction of the LPL 2024, held in Colombo yesterday, during which the team made 18 signings.
The International Cricket Council’s Anti-Corruption team was also present at the LPL auction. (Newswire)
