The Department of Meteorology says fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and Galle and Matara districts today.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern and Eastern provinces, while showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere on the island during the evening or night.
Misty conditions can be expected in some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and Southern provinces in the morning.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas around the island.
Winds will be easterly to north-easterly in the sea areas around the island. Wind speed will be 20- 30 kmph in the sea areas around the island. Wind speed can increase up to 40-45 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Mullaittivu to Puttalam via Kankasanthurai and Mannar.
The sea areas extending from Mullaittivu to Puttalam via Kankasanthurai and Mannar can be fairly rough at times. The other sea areas around the island will be slight to moderate. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (Newswire)
