The Department of Meteorology says the influence of the deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal on Sri Lanka’s weather will gradually reduce after tomorrow (29 Nov).
The department said the deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal, located 110 km northeast of Trincomalee today, is predicted to move slowly North Northwestwards closer to the east coast of Sri Lanka with the possibility to intensify further.
According to the weather forecast issued at 12.00 pm today, showers are expected in several areas today and tomorrow.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern and North-central provinces and the Trincomalee district. Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely in some places in the Northern province.
Showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and the Galle district. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere on the island in the evening or night.
Strong winds of about 60 kmph can be expected at times over the Northern, North-central, Northwestern, Central and Eastern provinces.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. (Newswire)
