Rainfall and strong winds are likely across multiple provinces in Sri Lanka, the Department of Meteorology said.
The low-pressure system over the southwest Bay of Bengal, located east of Sri Lanka as of Tuesday morning, is expected to move gradually west-northwest towards the Tamil Nadu coast.
Showers or thundershowers are likely at times in the Northern, Eastern, North-Central, Uva, Central, and North-Western provinces. Fairly heavy rainfall, exceeding 75mm, is expected in some areas of these provinces, including the Matale district, the Department said.
Isolated showers or thundershowers are forecasted elsewhere, particularly in the evening or night.
Fairly strong winds reaching 40 kmph may occur over the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, as well as in Matale and Trincomalee districts.
The public were urged to take necessary precautions to minimize damage from localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, sea areas extending from Mannar to Pottuvil, through Kankasanthurai, Trincomalee, and Batticaloa, are likely to experience strong winds of 30-40 kmph, occasionally reaching 50 kmph.
Rough sea conditions are expected during thundershowers, and naval and fishing communities are advised to remain vigilant. (Newswire)
