Suspect arrested for bribing Mattakuliya Cop for drug peddling

A 50-year-old man has been arrested on charges of soliciting a bribe of Rs. 100,000 per month with the Acting OIC of the Mattakkuliya Police Station. 

The Police said the suspect had reached the Acting OIC via telephone and had offered Rs. 100,000 per month in exchange for allowing drug peddling in the area.

Having informed the Bribery Commission in this regard, the Acting OIC summoned the suspect to the Police Station under the guise of agreeing to his request.

Bribery Commission officials nabbed the suspect when offering Rs. 50,000 as an initial payment to the Mattakuliya Acting OIC.

The suspect has been identified as a 50-year-old resident of Mattakuliya. (Newswire)
