The Sri Lanka Navy has seized approximately 342kg of cardamom and 1231kg of dried turmeric on January 24, 2025, during separate search operations in the Keeramundalama beach area and Thorayadi sea area, where the items were being smuggled into the country.
Two suspects from the Anawasala area in Kalpitiya were apprehended in connection with the smuggling attempt. The Navy also seized a dinghy used for transporting the goods.
The suspects and the confiscated items will be handed over to the Customs Preventive Office in Katunayake for further legal proceedings. The Navy continues its vigilance to prevent the influx of illegal goods into Sri Lanka’s coastal regions. (NewsWire)
