The Colombo Additional Magistrate’s Court has issued a warrant against former minister Douglas Devananda for failing to appear in court to provide evidence yesterday.

The former minister had failed to appear in court over a case filed by him regarding an incident in 2016 of giving two cheques of Rs. 10 million each to a businessman from Wellawatte.

At the time, Douglas Devananda had filed a complaint with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) claiming that the businessman had defrauded him.

As the case was taken up for hearing yesterday, former minister Douglas Devananda failed to appear in court citing illness.

Despite the former minister’s lawyer having informed the court of the illness, they were unable to provide a medical report, leading to the court issuing an arrest warrant against the former minister.

Therefore, Colombo Additional Magistrate Pasan Amarasena issued a warrant ordering former minister Douglas Devananda to be arrested and presented in court. (Newswire)
