Weather Alert : Three updates

  • Weather forecast for today : 

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in most provinces of Sri Lanka after 02.00 p.m. today. Fairly heavy showers above 75mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces and Galle and Matara districts. Showers will occur in the Eastern province and the Hambantota and Jaffna districts in the morning. Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces in the morning. 

  • Sea areas : 

Showers or thundershowers may occur in the sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Trincomalee via Pottuvil. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in other sea areas around the Island, particularly during the afternoon or night. Winds will be North-easterly or variable in direction and wind speed will be 20-25 kmph. The sea areas around the island will be slight. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

  • Flood warnings : 

Flood warnings have been issued to the Beddegama area due to a rise in the water levels of the Gin Ganga. Minor flood warnings have also been issued to the Dunamale area due to a rise in the water levels of the Attanagalu Oya. People living in the vicinity of the rivers have been requested to remain vigilant of flood situations. (NewsWire)
