One Sri Lankan and eight Indian national crew members onboard the capsized oil tanker off the coast of Oman were rescued, Omani authorities said.
Oman’s Maritime Security Centre confirmed that nine crew members had been saved but added that “tragically, one crew member was found deceased.”
The 16-member crew, consisting of Indian and Sri Lankan nationals, were rescued after their oil tanker, MT Prestige Falcon, capsized off the coast of Oman on Monday.
The Comoros-flagged oil tanker went down 25 nautical miles southeast of Ras Madrakah, near the port town of Duqn.
The Indian Navy’s warship INS Teg was deployed for the Search and Rescue operation and managed to save eight Indian crew members and one Sri Lankan.
India and Oman are continuing the search for the remaining crew amid challenging weather conditions, the Indian Navy said. (Newswire)
