The Presidential Election must be held in the first week of October this year, with a new President expected to take oaths before October 14, Minister of Tourism, Lands, and Sports Harin Fernando said.
Speaking to reporters, Minister Fernando said that he believes President Ranil Wickremesinghe will definitely contest the Presidential election.
“It is a dream for the groups that got only 3% in the elections to find another 47% to win the presidential election. It is good to allow them to dream. But, dreams may or may not come true,” he said.
The minister further said that the President must receive one more opportunity to rebuild this nation, as Ranil Wickremesinghe is the President who revived a bankrupt nation in a short period.
“Our country is like a patient who has been cured and transferred from the ICU to the ward. Now people need to decide whether they are going to kill the patient by resending the patient to the ICU,” he pointed out.
Minister Fernando went on to say that Ranil Wickremesinghe is the best doctor available to build the country which is terminally ill, adding that the whole world believes this.
“Once we start our campaign, show our efforts and progress to the people, I believe they will understand. We have our expectations,” he added. (NewsWire)
