Three men were arrested with locally-manufactured firearms in separate incidents reported in Sri Lanka’s North, Central, and Southern provinces.
In the first case, a 47-year-old resident of Marakkarampalai was taken into custody on the evening of April 7 in the Periyakaddu area. The arrest was made during a joint operation by the Parayanalankulam Police and the Poovarasankulam Special Task Force (STF), acting on received intelligence. The suspect was found with a locally-made firearm.
In a separate incident the same evening, a 38-year-old man from Hattota Amuna, Matale, was arrested by Naula Police during a roadblock near Kongahawela on the Naula–Elahera Road. The firearm was found in the back seat of a car traveling from Laggala to Matale.
On the same day, a 39-year-old man was arrested in Tangalle, also in possession of a locally-made firearm. The arrest was carried out by STF based on a tip-off.
All three suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue. (NewsWire)
