The Colombo Additional Magistrate’s Court has issued a notice to the OIC of the Dematagoda Police on allegations of stripping naked and brutally assaulting an individual.
The notice was issued based on a complaint claiming that a driver of a three-wheeler had been apprehended and detained for 07 days without being produced in court, during which he had been stripped naked and beaten by the Police officer.
The lawyer representing the victim informed the court that the victim had been requested for hire via a telephone call and had arrived in Dematagoda on 02 January.
A group of persons in civil attire had then threatened him with a firearm and taken him to the Dematagoda Police Station, where he had been questioned about the body of a woman found in a garbage dump, and was later brutally assaulted.
The court was further informed that the Police officials had produced the victim in court on 09 January and had misled the court by claiming that he was an individual who had fallen from a vehicle.
After being released by the court based on the Police facts, the victim had been admitted to the hospital, receiving treatment until 18 January.
The court was also informed that the Police officers had threatened the victim that they would plant drugs in his vehicle and file a case against him if he filed a complaint against them.
The lawyers had also informed the court that the victim’s sister had filed a complaint with the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka claiming that her brother’s fundamental rights had been violated through the incident. (Newswire)
