Vajira Jayasooriya, of Sri Lankan origin, received the prestigious award for Best Accountant of the Year 2022 in Australia recently.
He received the State Accountant and Australia’s Best Accountant Award, which is presented annually.
Speaking on his feat, Vajira Jayasooriya said this is the first time that a Sri Lankan has won this award.
The 45-year-old Sri Lankan Accountant also received the Best Accountant Award in Queensland state.
Jayasooriya said that the number of accountants registered with the Accountants Institute in Queensland alone is about 6000.
Vajira Jayasooriya has been selected as the Accountant of the Year for Australia from the six best accountants selected from six states.
The award ceremony was organized by the Institute of Public Accountants of Australia (IPA), which is one of the three organizations that register accountants in the country with a membership of over 50,000 accountants.
Born in 1977 in Kiribathgoda, Vajira Jayasooriya studied at a number of schools in Sri Lanka and attended Dharmaraja College in Kandy for his GCE Advanced Level Examinations.
He attended Colombo University and studied economics after which he migrated to Australia and qualified in accountancy. (NewsWire)
