Five suspects who were arrested with over 23 kilos of heroin off the coast of Mirissa have been ordered to be detained and interrogated for a period of one week.
The suspects were apprehended by the Sri Lanka Navy during a special operation conducted near the Mirissa Fisheries Harbour on Thursday (05) morning.
The Navy apprehended 05 suspects aged between 33 and 42 years along with a fishing trawler in which they had concealed the narcotics.
Following their arrest, the suspects who are residents of Mirissa, Kamburugamuwa, and Pitigala, were handed over to the Police Anti-Narcotics Unit for further investigations.
The suspects who were produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday have been ordered to be detained for one week and questioned by the Police Anti-Narcotics Unit. (NewsWire)
