Sri Lanka’s fiscal deficit cannot be addressed by revenue-raising measures only, Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Eran Wickremeratne said in a statement on Wednesday (08).
MP Wickremeratne said that the government must focus on addressing real issues and not push those who live and work with dignity into dependency through irrational and impractical tax measures.
The SJB MP pointed out that whilst revenue needs to be increased, resolving one financial problem by creating additional financial problems is not prudent.
“Taxing those earning above Rs. 250,000 per month on a progressive basis must be considered. However, pushing those who are self-supporting into government dependency is unacceptable,” he added. (NewsWire)
