Three individuals, including a 14-year-old girl, have died in two separate accidents reported within the 24 hours ending at 06.00 am today.
According to the Police, a man and his daughter had sustained serious injuries after a van had crashed into them near the Mahawa junction on the Nawayalatenna – Jambugahapitiya Road in Katugasthota on Thursday (09).
The father and child had succumbed to injuries upon admission to the Katugastota Hospital. The victims are a 46-year-old man and his 14-year-old daughter, both residents of Polgolla.
The driver of the van has been arrested in connection to the accident, while the Katugasthota Police is conducting further investigations.
Meanwhile, a 23-year-old motorcyclist has died following an accident reported on the Hendala – Elakanda Road in Wattala last night (10).
The Police stated that the motorcyclist travelling with a pillion rider had crashed into a wall due to being unable to control the vehicle.
The motorcyclist and the pillion rider had been admitted to a private hospital in Wattala during which the motorcyclist had succumbed to injuries and the other was transferred to the Colombo National Hospital for treatment.
The deceased is a 23-year-old resident of Palliyawatte, Hendala. The Wattala Police is conducting further investigations into the incident. (NewsWire)
