Former Sri Lanka cricketer Farveez Maharoof has withdrawn from the Cricket Constitutional Committee appointed to create a new constitution for Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), days after his appointment.
In a Twitter message, Maharoof thanked the Minister of Sports Roshan Ranasinghe for accepting his request and releasing him from the said committee.
“I feel my area of expertise is mainly on the technical matters of the game, and not on constitutional matters. As such, I feel that I can make a better contribution to technical matters and not on policy and law,” he added.
Last week (23), Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe appointed a 10-member committee, chaired by former Supreme Court Judge Justice KT Chitrasiri, to submit a draft of the proposed new constitution for Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
The committee also comprises Dr. Duminda Hulangamuwa, Dr. Ariththa Wickramanayake, President’s Counsel Harsha Amarasekera, Major General (Retd) Renuka Rowell, Deepthika Kulasena, Gayal Kalatuwawa, Hariguptha Rohanadeera and former cricketers Charith Senanayake and Farveez Maharoof.
At the time Minister Roshan Ranasinghe said via a media release, that the independent panel of governance experts would conduct “necessary stakeholders inquiries and deliberations, impartially and objectively, with the assistance, guidance and advice of the Technical Committee of the International Cricket Council (ICC).”
According to the Sports Minister, the committee is expected to draft the proposed new constitution within two months. (NewsWire)
