A woman who had physically tortured her 17-year-old step daughter in the Ragama area has been remanded until 24th March 2023.
The Ragama Police stated that the 39-year-old woman had assaulted the teenager at their house in the Kurukulewa area in Ragama.
The teenager has been admitted to the Colombo North teaching Hospital in Ragama for a medical examination under Police protection.
Investigations have revealed that the child’s father had remarried after her mother had passed away. The Police stated that the woman is a mother of a 09-year-old daughter, while the father is reportedly employed overseas.
The Police had arrested the woman after receiving information that a teenager was being assaulted in a house in the Kurukulewa area in Ragama.
Video footage of the assault had also gone viral on social media prompting the Police to take action. (NewsWire)
