On April 8, a tragic incident occurred in Palapathwela, Matale, where a 19-year-old student, Dushmantha Sithul Wijesekara, lost his life while returning from a batch party.
Dushmantha was a former cricket captain of the St. Thomas’s College team in Matale and had recently taken his GCE Advanced Level examination.
Dushmantha Sithul Wijesekara was also part of several Sri Lanka school cricket provincial squads.
After attending a batch party the previous night, Dushmantha was traveling back with several of his classmates in a car.
Unfortunately, the vehicle crashed into a tree in Palapathwela area in the morning, causing Dushmantha to lose his life immediately.
Two of his classmates suffered dinjuries, with one of them being admitted to the ICU at Kandy Hospital, and the other admitted to the Matale hospital.
