Showers are expected in several parts of Sri Lanka later today, the Department of Meteorology said.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North-central provinces and in the Mullaitivu district during the afternoon or night.
A few showers may also occur in the Western and Southern coastal areas in the morning too.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Hambanthota via Galle during the night.
Winds will be south-westerly over sea areas around the island and wind speed will be 20-30 kmph. Wind speed may increase up to 40-45 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar will be fairly rough at times. The other sea areas around the island will be slight to moderate. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (NewsWire)
