Innocent people who had gone for religious activities to churches and for meals at hotels were killed in the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks, the Archbishop of Colombo, His Eminence, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith said.
He made the remark at the commemoration of the 4th anniversary of the Easter attacks held at the St. Anthony’s Church in Kochchikade, seeking justice for the victims.
Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith further stated that it was regrettable to see the incumbent government protecting those from the former government who were the cause for the attacks to take place.
“The former and current governments are focused on completely bury the memories of the attacks. The various investigations and reports of the Parliament Committees on the Easter attacks prove there is a political conspiracy behind the incident,” he said.
The Archbishop pointed out that there is sufficient evidence to prove that former State Intelligence Service (SIS) Chief Nilantha Jayawardena had failed to prevent the attacks despite having prior information on possible attacks and that it is evident that the government was protecting such an individual at present.
Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith referring to several investigation reports said it’s clear that a political conspiracy is behind the attacks.
He also questioned why there are continuous attempts to conduct more DNA tests to ascertain the identity of Sara Jasmine, the wife of the Katuwapitiya church bomber, among those killed in the Sainthamarudu blast.
The Archbishop pointed out that the previous DNAs have revealed that Sara Jasmine was not among those killed in the Sainthamarud blast which was caused by those involved in the Easter attacks.
Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith questioned if the true mastermind of the attacks is still attempting to cover up the links to the attacks. (NewsWire)
