State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe has been sworn in as the Acting Minister of Finance.
His appointment comes after President and Finance Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe left for the United Kingdom (UK) today.
Shehan Semasinghe will function as the Acting Finance Minister of Sri Lanka until the return of President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
According to the Finance Ministry, the appointment had been officially made by President Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday.
President Wickremesinghe left for the UK to attend the coronation of King Charles III which will take place on Saturday 6 May.
The coronation conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury at Westminster Abbey will kick off a weekend of events and celebrations in the UK.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe will join other world leaders invited to attend the coronation of Charles III and his wife, Camilla, as His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort of the United Kingdom respectively.
It is also reported that ahead of the coronation, the Commonwealth Secretariat will take advantage of the gathering of leaders in London to host a Commonwealth Summit for Presidents and Heads of Government of Commonwealth countries on Friday, May 5. (NewsWire)
