A youth has been sentenced to one year of rigorous imprisonment for stealing two denim jeans worth Rs. 40,000 from a prominent apparel store in Cinnamon Gardens, Colombo in 2017.
The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday (July 10) sentenced the youth to prison after concluding the case which had been debated for 06 years without witnesses.
The suspect, who is a resident of Colombo 08, had stolen two denim jeans priced at Rs. 19,900 each from the apparel store in January 2017.
Initially, the Cinnamon Gardens Police had inspected CCTV footage and apprehended the suspect, but he was released on bail.
However, after debating the case for nearly six years, the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court issuing its verdict on the case has sentenced the suspect to one-year rigorous imprisonment. (NewsWire)
