Tourism Minister Harin Fernando and former cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya met Sri Lankan cricketer Danushka Gunatilleke in Sydney.
Gunatilleke expressed his gratitude for their visit in a Facebook post along with a picture. Both Fernando and Jayasuriya are currently in Sydney for a tourism promotion campaign.
Gunatilleke has been stranded in Australia since late last year due to allegations of sexually assaulting a woman during Sri Lanka’s World Cup campaign in October.
However, last month, the Australian police dropped three of the four charges against him, which included allegations of fellatio and “digital penetration” without consent.
Gunatilleke still faces one count of sexual intercourse without consent. He has pleaded not guilty to the remaining charge and will stand trial.
