Uruwarige Wannila Aththo, the leader of the Indigenous population known as ‘Veddas’, says he plans to take legal action against comedians Blok & Dino over a YouTube program he claims misrepresented the Indigenous Vedda community.
Speaking to the media, he said the program was made for commercial purposes at the expense of his community’s heritage, distorting their language and traditions. He said his attempts to contact the creators and request the removal of the video were unsuccessful.
Wannila Aththo criticized the lack of regulation on social media platforms, saying many online programs misuse media freedom and promote misleading narratives. He urged the government to take steps to address such content, which he described as unethical and harmful.
He said members of his community, including children, raised concerns about the program, prompting him to review it. After finding the content offensive, he said he remains committed to pursuing legal action to protect the dignity and cultural integrity of the Vedda people. (NewsWire)
