Minister of Labour and Economic Development Anil Jayantha clarified the implementation of the new 15% tax on service exports, stating that all citizens are liable to pay income tax.
Issuing a statement, the Minister explained that service export providers have been granted certain tax reliefs compared to ordinary taxpayers.
His remarks come following growing criticism of the new tax, which imposes a 15% levy on individuals in Sri Lanka who provide services to foreign clients and repatriate earnings.
Minister Jayantha dismissed claims that the government had introduced additional taxes, calling them misleading. The Minister also noted that service providers would receive relief under international double taxation treaties. (NewsWire)
