Thundershowers are expected in several parts of Sri Lanka later in the day today, the Department of Meteorology stated.
The department said afternoon thunderstorms are expected in the Eastern, Central, North-Central and Northern provinces today.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Eastern, Uva, Central, Northern and North-central provinces and in the Kurunegala district during the evening or night.
Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm can be expected in some places. Several spells of showers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces and in the Puttalam district.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the sea areas around the island.
Winds will be southerly and speed will be 20-30 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 40 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar, and from Pottuvil to Batticaloa.
