The Ministry of Transport and Highways together with the National Council for Road Safety has issued guidelines for drivers using the various expressways in Sri Lanka during the upcoming festive season.
The guidelines consist of warnings related to exceeding the speed limit, drinking and driving, texting and calling while driving, among other traffic offences.
Meanwhile, an assessment of accidents on the Southern Expressway by the Expressway Road Safety Committee reveals that 56% of accidents are caused due to the actions of drivers.
The assessment further reveals that 9% of the accidents are related to vehicle defaults, and 33% are by third parties. (Newswire)
